On May 18th Arizona will be holding a special election ballot to vote on a temporary 1 cent sales tax. If this measure does not pass our children’s education will look very different next year. Unlike last year, there are no stimulus dollars that will protect our community. The following things are guaranteed to happen if the sales tax does not pass.
· Elementary schools will lose ALL specials including art, music, PE, band and strings.
· Class sizes will go up by 6 students.
· Middle schools will lose School Resource Officers (SROs) and ALL athletics will be eliminated.
· High schools will lose SROs, an assistant principal and athletics will be pay for play with a $450 fee per sport.
· The total impact to Scottsdale Unified School District will be $33.9 million.
More information regarding the temporary sales tax increase can be found on the
1 Cent Tax Increase form available on our forms page.
Stargazing
We will try one last time to have our stargazing night. Please come on May 19 from 7-9 PM for this special free event sponsored by our PTO. This is a great family night out. Enter the campus through the large playground gate. There will be a short talk in the PE room on what we will see and then we will go outside and look through the telescopes. Bring your digital camera to photograph the Moon and Saturn. You may bring your own telescope if you need help in using it.
